Tonight is likely to be a great deal of fun with the announcement that AS President Wafa Ben Hassine and two members of the AS Judicial Board (Arianna Peregretti and Sarmad Bokhari) are facing impeachment. The charges against the AS President rest upon the belief that she improperly used her authority and for her failure to perform her duties, while both Judicial Board impeachments rest upon violations of the Rules and Procedures of the Associated Students Judicial Board and the Constitution of the Associated Students.
Attached are the charges of impeachment for the AS council:
After receiving information about these impeachments, our research uncovered that both Sarmad and Arianna both had ties to Students First. In addition we found that Wafa was actively campaigning for Students First in the weeks prior to the AS elections.
In addition, the charges made against Wafa have some standing, as she has repeatedly misused the AS Council Listserv for political purposes throughout the year; and questions of bias aside, she is also responsible for the AS budget fiasco during October 2010.
As for those members of the Judicial board who are facing impeachment for their refusal to recuse themselves in rulings regarding their conflict of interests, their affiliation and active support for Students First! is very evident.
Who is Sarmad Bokhari?
According to the Center for Student Involvement, he currently serves as the President of Muslim Student Association (MSA). He is also an active supporter of Students First! as referenced by his dedication of his Facebook profile picture advertising for their slate.
Who is Arianna Peregretti?
According to the Center for Student Involvement, she is a principle member of both the Student Worker Collective and Voz Fronteriza. She also supported Students First!, claiming that she supported Donald Zelaya for VP Student Life.
In addition, our research revealed that of the other five members of the Judicial Board, Tanner Smith also had ties to Students First! Tanner served as a principle member of Forward in 2009-2010 (the organization currently is not registered as an official student organization). In the 2009-2010 elections he was an active supporter of students first, and he has had very close ties with Arianna and Voz Fronteriza since 2010.
The outcome of tonights proceedings will be either live blogged or live streamed on our website.
